Bridget Jones’s Diary - a review

"Bridget Jones’s Diary" is a romantic comedy based on a bestselling book by Helen Fielding who also co-wrote the screenplay. The film is quite simply, smart and creates one of the most endearing characters to grace the screen.

The film tells the story of a year in the life of Bridget ( Renee Zellweger ) who is thirty – something woman with a few personality quirks. Bridget also starts a diary that chronicles her ups and downs. Bridget Jonses, the neurotic girl, is clever, funny, competent at her job, and a great friend. She also drinks too much, smokes too much, eats junk food. When it comes to men, she cannot distinguish between trash and quality. She is unlucky in love and she has two candidates for a husband. The film begins with a holiday visit to her parents’ home where she meets a man named Mark Darcy ( Colin Firth ) who is appealing as a decent, rich man and calling Bridget as “ verbally incontinent spinster “. Meanwhile, Bridget works at a London Publishing Company where she flirts with her boss Daniel Cleaver ( Hugh Grant ) who is a workaholic and an alcoholic but also a charming, handsome man. Bridget has to decide who is right for her.

" Bridget Jones’s Diary" is a romantic comedy which has great comedic moments and creates a nice place for an extraordinary character. The film is filled with moments of truth and flashes of humor. Bridget represents an average woman with everyday problems. “ Bridget Jones’s Diary” is a film worth seeing that keeps you smiling all the way through. It is a highly entertaining film which was one of the biggest romantic comedy hits.
